Finally! After weeks of frustration we for once got what we were after and credit must go to the players and Allardyce (oh and the fans, who were terrific throughout the game.). One disappointing thing about last night was the abuse once again from certain fans towards Carlton Cole, who in my books is still a decent forward who has done just as much as the likes of Maynard and Baldock. He gets criticised game after game and personally i think people do not understand his game… Carlton is not a goalscorer but he is vital for us, his presence gives Championship defences all sorts of problems and his desire cannot be questioned.
With that out of the way lets focus on the three points we earned against Peterborough. Goals from Vaz Te and O’Niell sealed the win but it was the manner, as well as the result, which has brought the optimism back to West Ham. After Vaz Te gave us the lead on the 51st minute we did not make the same mistake as we did in recent weeks and instead pushed on, grabbing our second just 6 minutes later. Even from this position we continued to push for more goals and probably should have finished up with more.
Peterborough’s real threat throughout the game was Taylor who was unlucky when he struck the crossbar in the first half, but apart from the first 20 minutes or so we seemed to control this game. We must however push on from this, but with the return of Vaz Te and Faubert I definitely fancy our chances of getting all three points against Reading. Vaz Te was again superb and since his arrival has always been a thorn in the defences he has come up against.
(Oh and I’m pleased to have been spot on with my prediction before the game!)
It all comes down to Saturday now… COYI
